Traditional Worship
Timeless.
Classic. Generation to Generation.
Since shortly after the Civil War, Methodists have
been gathering in Lufkin, Texas to worship God in the
Wesleyan tradition. Today, at the dawn of the 21st
century, that tradition lives on in our weekly 8:15
and 10:30 a.m. Chapel and Sanctuary services.
But "traditional" worship at FUMC means much
more than antiquated ritualism. Enriched by the beauty
of thoughtful architecture and world-class musical
instruments, guarded by the wisdom of time-honored
liturgy, freshened by the winds of contemporary
creativity, traditional worship at FUMC is the
crossroads where a storied past meets a hopeful
present, and the conversation between the two distills
into a worship experience that strikes a reverent
balance between the transcendent and the immanent, the
old and the new, the formal and the free.
If you're looking for worship of theological,
liturgical and musical distinction, we think you'll
find it in the traditional services of FUMC,
Lufkin:
The strength of yesterday. . .the relevance of today.
. .the touchstone of tomorrow.
Prayer Chapel—As always the Prayer Chapel, located
at the end of the elementary wing, is open from 7a.m. to
9 p.m. for your private prayer and meditation.
