Purpose
Of United Methodist Women (UMW)
The organized unit of
United Methodist Women shall be a community of women
whose purpose is to know God and to experience freedom
as whole persons through Jesus Christ; to develop a
creative, supportive fellowship; and to expand
concepts of mission through participation in the
global ministries of the church.UMW
scholarships are given to various mission programs and
organizations. We also support the mission program for
Lufkin FUMC. Local church mission projects we support
include CISC, LOVE INC, My Growing Place, youth
scholarships, UM Army, the Women's Shelter, The
Rainbow Room, uniforms for elementary students, and
the Circle Club at Anderson Elementary School.
As an annual hands-on project, we give gifts for women in
crisis centers. Global mission projects include
flood buckets and school kits.
Organizational Groups
Quilting Group
meets every Monday at 9:30 a.m. in the CLC. Call Ann
McCurry, 634-5903.
Prayer & Journaling Group
meets every 1st and 3rd Monday at noon in the UMW
Cottage. Projects include furnishings for the cottage
and Nickels for Nets. Call Emily Kistler, 634-2828.
Mom's
Bible Study Group meets Monday mornings at
9:00 in the Youth/Worship Center. Each study
lasts six months, and then a new study begins. This
group does not meet in summer months. It
financially supports the Circle Club/Bible Study
after-school program at Anderson
Elementary.
Monday
Night Bible Study meets at 6:00 pm in the
Allen Parlor. Each study lasts six months, and then a
new study begins. This group does not meet in summer
months. It financially supports the Circle
Club/Bible Study after-school program at Anderson
Elementary and a first year college student from our
church.
Ladies
Exercise Group meets Monday, Wednesday and
Friday at 9:00 am in the Christian Life Center.
Praise
Ladies Sunday School Class meets at 9:15 am
in the Fellowship Hall. The class supports local and
hands-on projects.

Notes:
*The Executive Board
of the UMW meets once each month, the second Monday
at 4:30 PM in the UMW Cottage.
*General meetings of
the UMW are held once each quarter, place and time
to be announced. The Call to Prayer service
will be in April.
*World Thank offering will be in November.
*Three general studies are held each year:
Missions study; global or Bible study; and Spiritual
Growth study, places and times to be announced.
*A Birthday Party for the Women of the Church will
be held in July, place and time to be announced.
*A one-day Women's Retreat is planned for September,
place and time to be announced.
*Birthday Cards are sent to the women of the Church
to celebrate their special day.
*Items for School Kits, the Hands-on Project for
2008, will be collected during the year, culminating
in the assembling of the kits by the Confirmation
Class and taken to Sager-Brown Depot in Baldwin, LA,
in August when the Unit and the Missions
Committee sponsor a trip there.
*Copies of the Charter for Racial Justice will be
placed in the worship guides once each year with a
target date in February.
*Meals for bereaved families are coordinated by the
Bereavement Committee. Members of Sunday
School Classes are called on to help provide the
meals with the UMW purchasing the meats.
*Cookbooks, cookie recipe books, Christmas
ornaments, and note cards featuring photographs
of the church are available in the church offices.
*Informational items
concerning the UMW will be placed in the Church
newsletter.
