David Lawson

David Lawson, church organist, grew up in a musical family.  A native of Alexandria, Virginia, Mr. Lawson’s mother sang in church quartets and performed with her sister on radio in the Washington, D.C. area from the 1930's through the 1950's.  The Lawson family moved to Texas in 1963 and David began taking piano lessons at 11 years of age.  He began playing for church services and school choirs during his junior high school years.  He graduated from Southwestern University, Georgetown, Texas, with a Bachelor of Music degree in choral music. David, later, attended Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, Texas, and obtained a Master of Arts degree in Music Education.

In 1977, David moved to Lufkin, Texas to become a choral director in the Lufkin Public Schools.  He has worked at Dunbar Intermediate (1977-80), Junior High East (1980-84) and is presently Choral Director at Lufkin High School.
