Project History

In late 2007 FUMC Lufkin began talking with Angelina Habitat for Humanity about a joint project.  In February 2008 the Habitat board approved their participation.  The Summit Men's Ministry of FUMC will provide a lot and the building labor.  Habitat will provide all materials and also choose an occupant.  Construction began in March 2008.

This page will be used to update volunteers about work progress, schedules and needs.  Update information should be sent to turnerhome@suddenlink.net

Location

The building site is 187 June Drive in Hudson, Texas.  Take Hwy. 94 to Hudson and  turn right on FM706.  After about a mile, turn left on June drive (at a curve in the road).  You will see the work site a few houses down the road on the left.   It is the only lot being worked on (a sign will be added soon).

Project Coordinator: Ernest Hudgens, 936-676-2673.

We will have a work day this Saturday, July 5 from 6:30 to noon for those who can come (might be a small group).  The crew will be finishing the outside siding and adding ceiling joists, etc.  No food or drinks will be provided this time, so bring your own.   Bring your tools (saws, hammers, nail guns, etc.)

6/14/08
We will begin framing the house on Saturday, June 28.  We need a great turnout in order to get the entire house framed in a weekend. Please make it a point to be there as much as you can on Saturday June 28th. We will begin at 7:00 am and go until we are done. Water, soft drinks and lunch will be provided.  Bring any of your own tools used in the framing process-- power saws, saw horses, nail guns, hammers, etc.  Do not let your skill level or lack of experience keep you from participating.

6/11/08
Habitat has chosen a client (occupant) for the home we are building.  She is Shinequia Roberson, a single mother who is employed at Lufkin State School.  She has one child and is caring for two foster children, all of whom attend Hudson schools.

6/9/08
The lot has been surveyed, cleared and leveled.  Plumbing has been roughed in.  The foundation and driveway have been poured.  The next tasks are framing, roofing and the exterior walls.  Scott Hamel and Eddie Smelly will lead this phase.  Because of summer vacations, this construction will not begin until Saturday, June 28, 2008.
