Our
Ministry
Mission
My
Growing Place
is a community service ministry of First United
Methodist Church of Lufkin.
We provide a warm, caring, Christian
environment rich with developmentally appropriate
learning experiences.
Our program is open to all persons regardless
of religious preference, race, color, sex, or
disability. Our
program is designed to accommodate the needs of the
individual child as he or she learns.
Our classes are intentionally small to provide
each child with plenty of love and attention.
We believe that every child is a precious gift
from God and will grow, develop, and learn at his or
her own pace. Children
are placed in classes according to their age by
September 1 of each year and are promoted once a year.
Computers
All three and four year old classes include computer
centers at which children are encouraged to learn and
practice computer, math, language, and other skills.
Spanish
Three and four year old classes have Spanish during
class at least once per week.
The instructor teaches students the basics such
as numbers, colors, common words and phrases, and
encourages them to use these skills regularly.
Music and Motor Skills Development
Ages two and up attend music and motor skills
development class each day.
The children sing, learn about instruments, and
practice motor skills through dancing and active
games. Also,
all ages visit our playground daily.
It is fenced, gated, and divided into three
age-appropriate areas, which accommodate all ages and
provide a variety of physically stimulating
activities.
Christian Reinforcement
All children are cared for with Christian love and
discipline. Older
classes attend Chapel weekly, and are encouraged to
attend Fellowship With Friends, a morning singing and
prayer gathering that reminds everyone to use
Christian actions.

We

You
are welcome to visit at any time.
Contact your child’s
teacher
for a schedule or if you wish to know
when
students
will be most active.
Conferences
If
you have questions or concerns about your child’s
progress,
you may request a conference.
During a
scheduled
conference, we will address your questions
and
share written observations with you highlighting your
child’s
progress.
Calendar
My Growing Place roughly follows the Lufkin ISD
calendar and
provides summer camp during the summer months.
Lunch
Children are required to bring lunch each day.
We do offer a
kids meal delivery program on Thursdays.
You may choose
to buy meals through My Growing Place.
These meals usually come from local fast food
restaurants and serve as a fund-raiser for My Growing
Place.
