Lay Ministry |
A Lay Minister Is…
21 years of age or older and has been a member of FUMC,
A person who feels a calling for involvement in such a ministry and is of good
character, honest, and practices self-control.
Willing to make the commitment of time and effort necessary to be effective in
his/her ministry.
Growing in the understanding of scripture in both word and deed.
A person in whom the Community of Believers, the church, can place trust and
confidence, including confidentiality.
Supportive of the staff and programs of FUMC,
A Lay Minister Does...
After the initial training, a lay Minister will serve as a primary
representative of FUMC,
Make an initial home visit to
each family group during the first month after being commissioned and provide
each family group with an explanation of the Lay Minister Program---what the
family group can expect of the Lay Minister.
Pray daily for each member of his/her family group.
Make a minimum of one contact per
month by mail, telephone, informal contact, or home visitation.
Acknowledge significant days--birthdays, anniversaries, etc.--in the life of
family group members.
Be
an example to the family group by:
1. Regular attendance at worship services, Sunday School, and Bible study.
2. Volunteering in at least one ministry area other than Lay Ministry.
Attend additional equipping seminars
quarterly.
Be accountable by completing a monthly report.
